What are microcredentials and how do they differ from traditional certificates?

Microcredentials certify specific competences acquired through short learning experiences (e.g. courses, training programmes). Unlike traditional certificates, they include a detailed description of learning outcomes, the scope of the course, and the methods of assessment.

A microcredential does not replace a diploma or a traditional certificate. Instead, it complements formal education by validating specific, practical competences (e.g. language, digital, project-based or specialised skills, depending on the course content).
